Imani Shola shares a passionate and optimistic single, "Oxygen"

Just in time to close out the year, Imani Shola has made an emphatic statement with her newest single “Oxygen”. Keep reading for our glowing review of the track, in addition to a much closer look into this talented artist.

Based out of North London, Imani Shola is an immensely gifted artist that’s currently creating music that touches on specific genres like Jazz, Soul, and Gospel. As the daughter of a jazz saxophonist, the exceptional taste in music clearly runs in the family, because everything about her newest single “Oxygen” is divine. Featuring her warm and inviting vocals, an immaculate production, and so much more, we’ve been listening nonstop since it got sent our way. We have a feeling you’re really going to like this one.

Inspired by a personal experience that occurred back in 2017, “Oxygen” is a “song about being hungry for more of God and knowing He is your everything. I learnt what it means to be fully reliant on faith and trust in God". This feeling struck Imani during her time studying abroad in Paris and we can only hope she’s developed that feeling even more since then. With help on the production from Jacob F, Essel and mixing/mastering from Július Korbela, really everyone involved on this project put their best foot forward in crafting a special feeling. Though the song certainly revolves around Imani’s expressive and passion-filled vocals as she takes the listener on a vivid lyrical voyage, it’s also the bits and pieces in the background that further amplify this song’s greatness.

Honestly, something that didn’t creep up on us until about three or four listens in was the amount of positivity, introspection, and optimism that “Oxygen” holds. Yes, it’s the soul and gospel elements that make you feel much more connected to the energy this song offers, but it’s also in Imani’s vocal cadence that sort of let you feel like everything is going to be ok. In some capacity, we’re all going through something, and this song feels like an outlet to let yourself breathe and know you’re not alone. Additionally, we’d urge everyone to explore the rest of her music because it’s seriously fantastic.
