iHiva jam and groove on genre-diverse debut, "Take A Stand"

Consider us incredibly impressed by this debut single titled “Take A Stand” from iHiva! You’d be doing yourself a serious disservice if you didn’t read our glowing review of their first track ever. Check it all out below.

Pushing the boundaries of reggae fusion and adding in so many elements of funk, rock, and jazz, “Take A Stand” from iHiva is a certified hit in our eyes. For this Australian-based band who have just put out their first single, they’re drawing on influences from legends like Bob Marley, No Doubt, and Third World, yet positively including so much of themselves into the mix. We’re highly recommending you check out this song.

On the background of “Take A Stand”, iHiva are “standing in solidarity with those who suffer in silence”. It’s a socially conscious single that’s jam packed with soul and euphoria throughout the vocal delivery and wildly diverse instrumentation. At five minutes in length, they’ve single handedly created a song that has defined “fusion”, because nearly every facet is pulling from another genre and creating something truly original in the process.

While there were so many highlights we had written in our notes, the standout by far had to be the vocals. With so much else going on in the background instrumentally and atmospherically, the constant of it all were the commanding lyrics confidently making a point and bringing attention to a complex subject. As they’re a five piece band, you’d almost be tricked into thinking that there’s ten on stage due to the grand sounds being displayed as well. There isn’t a single negative or critique we could say here, because the song as a whole was so pure and perfect.

Seeing as though their overall sound stems from reggae and branches out, we’d still love to hear their direction expand and experiment for whatever else might be on the horizon. For a debut single, they’ve absolutely knocked it out of the park and we’ll be patiently waiting for the next arrival of a new single or maybe even an EP.
