Hyde Park's Nick Stevens opens up on EP, "This is Just a Simple Song" - Interview

Fresh off the release of his debut EP titled This is Just a Simple Song, we got the incredible opportunity to sit and speak with Nick Stevens on his solo project, Hyde Park! Check out our full interview below.

Sharing his first record since 2009, the solo project of Hyde Park has truly allowed for Nick Stevens to fulfill his musical vision. Spanning 6 total tracks and running right around 20 minutes, the artist immediately transports the listener into his atmospheric world of sound. Says Nick on the background of the record, “This is Just a Simple Song offers a looking glass for anyone seeking to make sense of the most turbulent times in their lives and learn how to adjust accordingly”. We couldn’t agree more with that sentiment and honestly can’t wait for everyone to dig into this EP.

Drawing influences from Belle and Sebastian, Nick Drake, and so many more, he’s still managed to completely innovate a sound within the indie pop genre. Nowadays, that’s become an increasingly difficult task, but the freshness and originality that shows itself was really a nice surprise. Furthermore, getting to speak with Nick directly about the in’s and out’s of the record, production, processes, and so much more was the cherry on top. It’s a conversation that we sincerely enjoyed and it provided the perfect context for an EP that needed it.

What’s even better is there’s actually a companion film called Sing a Simple Song - Live at The Record Co. that was released last December. The film sees Stevens reuniting with musical collaborators Chris Anthony (drums and percussion) and Drew Bligh (bass), as well as David Anthony (guitars and vocals), David Knox (keyboards and vocals), and Evan Lynch (cello and percussion) to perform the entire EP front to back. There’s nothing better than a live video to really show you how talented these artists who performed really are.
