Honey Cellar share an optimistic outlook on rich single, "Dorma"

Recently released and described as their “anthem to the earth”, Honey Cellar have served up something special on their latest, “Dorma”. Read on for a closer look at the track, in addition to a much needed background on these artists.

Made up of Joey Buttlar (drums, percussion), Danny Connolly (guitar, vocals), Lucy Holden (violin, mandolin, vocals), Catherine Krol (bass, vocals) and Tariq Shihadah (guitar), Honey Cellar are an Illinois-based band putting a much needed spin on the indie folk genre. Their latest song is called “Dorma”, and let us confidently tell you how instrumentally rich and full of life this one is. If this happens to be your introduction to the band, prepare yourselves, because you’re in for a serious treat as you get listening.

Starting things off slow and eventually ramping up to pure beauty within the instrumentation, the introduction on “Dorma” had us instantly looking forward to whatever was coming next. However, as soon as the dual vocals hit, that’s when it all really began to take off. Now while the first thing you may notice in the song is just how diverse the instrumentation is, so much of the greatness comes directly from the song’s lyricism. Everyone interprets things differently, but we sensed an overwhelming amount of optimism and introspection for a better future. Specifically the line “And in our time, stars will close their eyes. We’ll dream of brighter things”.

Of course with such an inclusion of various instruments, especially the mandolin which was easily our favorite part, the folkness of it all is what made us fall in love. The genre nowadays feels cloudy with so much genre-bending and minor moments, but what Honey Cellar has done correctly here is go all out with a vintage feel and modern outlook of where they think the genre is going. Whether it’s something you listen to or not, we can virtually guarantee that you’ll end up thoroughly enjoying what you hear when you get the chance.
