Based out of Los Angeles, CA, Handsome Boy Banks’ music transcends multiple genres. What you’ll hear specifically is a lovely mix of Hip hop, R&B, and electronic. He’s an artist who openly takes risk and isn’t afraid to get the message across. On “Pasadena”, the artist has compiled his personal life experiences into one song that’s guaranteed to get stuck in your head in the best way possible.
Considering we’re based out of Los Angeles ourselves, it’s always a treat when we get to hear songs that are homage to places we regularly visit. Lyrically, “Pasadena” takes you on a virtual visit through the sweet and sultry vocals of Handsome Boy Banks. Not only does he let you in on his life and complexities, but he does it in a way that makes you want to learn the words and sing along with him. As mentioned, his overall sound isn’t pigeon holed into one succinct genre, in fact this track is a perfect representation of exactly what he’s capable of creating.
At a little over four minutes in overall run time, there’s not a single second of wasted space on this single. Right from the get go, the earwormy synths get going as a backing track, and it’s not too long until the artist’s shows off his enticing vocal range that commands the song from start to finish. As much as this song is lyrically focused for the most part, what you’ll notice is that the overall groove on its own is quite the slow jam. It’s relaxing in a way that makes you want to focus in and hear what the artist is all about.
Looking at Handsome Boy Banks’ overall discography, he looks to have been quite busy over the past year. Seeing as though this is just his first single release of the year, we’re crossing our fingers that there’s more on the way.
