While this was our introduction to the artist, we didn’t quite know what to expect, but he’s left us feeling confident in whatever is going to come next.
On the background of it all, Gudboy has let us know that the song is a “striking representation of letting go in order to progress into your best self”. Right from the opening notes, “I Can’t Love You” is one continuous challenge for the listener as they begin to decipher the artist’s personal experiences through toxic relationships and even attempt to become optimistic on the other side of it all. As this is a collaboration single with The Crushboys, all contributors here have truly gone off the deep end in creating a thing of beauty. Through obvious Hip Hop influences with that deep electronic flair, it’s sure to capture all types of listeners spanning the spectrum of music.
At just a little under three minutes in total length, one of our biggest takeaways was the powerful immersive feeling that overcomes you from the start. What we mean by that is you’re quickly enveloped by sound and style, not really giving you a chance to focus on anything else besides the twists and turns that the song has to offer. We could see ourselves dancing to this or even becoming introspective attempting to relate his situations to our own. The song is versatile and explosive, but ultimately serves as a staple in his string of releases so far.
