Dropping in right at the end of the year with his first single release of 2022, Gregory Griffin has hit the mark on his latest, “The Dollar General Song”. Please read on for a closer look at the track, in addition to a background on this talented artist.

Currently based out of “Music City”, better known as Nashville, Tennessee, Gregory Griffin is a singer, songwriter, and immensely talented guitarist who’s just delivered us a gem in the release of “The Dollar General Song”. Relatively stripped back minus some acoustics, reverberation and nicely timed horns section, the artist has leaned heavily on his expressive vocals and vivid lyricism to help paint a picture of his experiences. This was our introduction to the musician, but he’s left us feeling quite impressed after multiple listens. Needless to say, we’re highly recommending you give this a spin when you get a moment.

Capitalizing off the success of his last released track “Salt Flats”, he’s managed to create another slow burner that absolutely explodes in emotion towards the climax of the song. At first, he sets the stage by imploring the listener to make connections through his imagery-filled words, leading them up to the pinnacle of it all towards the final notes. On the way there though, Gregory delicately forms these hypnotizing melodies that sort of suck you into the song, making you feel like you’re walking through it hand in hand with him. He sings with such passion and love, something that in our opinion can’t really be taught, and it ultimately adds to the sincerity and complexity that “The Dollar General Song” holds the most.

At first we thought we would just be gearing up for a classic sounding country-inspired tune, but truly the slow inclusion of the horns toward the latter half came as a wide open and welcomed surprise. Not that the song ever felt like it was lacking in any way, rather Gregory saving the best bits for last and culminating the overwhelming sensations of it all was nice and unexpected. If anything, this is serving as a wonderful introduction to the rest of his music, and we cannot wait to explore more of it, especially his debut record Caledonia.
