Released today on July 24th, 2020, Glass Ankle is back with their first new single in nearly three years, titled “For Another Day”. Read along with us as we give an in-depth look into what we thought of the song, as well as a bit of background into the band.

These indie dream rockers are coming straight from Manchester in the United Kingdom and have absolutely crushed it with this new fantastic track. Before we dig into the music, we’d love to provide a bio on the band and where they’ve been. Like so much art created in the past 6 months, “For Another Day” was completed during what seemed like an endless amount of days confined indoors as a result of lockdown. Although this year has undoubtedly proven very difficult for everyone, it has at least allowed the group's main songwriter, Greg, to find renewed passion and focus for his musical project, as can be heard in this brand new track.

According to the band, the main lyrical theme of 'For Another Day' is an undeniable urge to flee a situation that is becoming increasingly unbearable: to "leave it all to just decay another day" and find peace in doing something much more enjoyable and gratifying. The song's artwork playfully mirrors this sentiment, juxtaposing the highly undesirable prospect of a mountain of washing up with a view of an inviting sunny day outside the window. Everything in total that represents Glass Ankle is very much up front within the instrumentation on the song. You’ll hear their catchy guitar hooks, crisp glockenspiel, and lush synth pads. Let’s not forget the exquisite vocal harmonies which have become a signature of the band.

Honestly, that’s really what stood out to us the most. While the instrumentation overall on the single is varied and original, the crispness of the vocals gave us serious shivers down our spine. Right out of the gate, the vocals take over and paint a picture of “just another day” living in our new normal. Whether you’re enjoying this time or not, at least we’ve got music and art that will now live on forever and paint that picture of our typical days.

I also have to point out just how accurate the single art is for the music. If you’ve somehow made it throughout this time without stacking your dishes because you’ve not got the energy to clean them, then good on you. Seriously though, we are overly impressed with not only “For Another Day”, but the rest of Glass Ankle’s discography. The day can’t come soon enough to where we hopefully witness this song played live on tour. As far as dream pop goes, they’ve absolutely nailed it and gained fans for life.
