Making her way back for another interview, this time to talk all about the origin story of her newest single “The Mirror”, Gabriella Zauna joined us for a wonderful conversation. Please enjoy it in full below.
For those potentially out of the loop, Gabriella Zauna is a Los Angeles-based artist, producer, and multi-talented musician who’s consistently been impressing us over the years. This time around, she’s returned with an immaculate new track titled “The Mirror” that has quite the peculiar story surrounding its creation. While we obviously recommend you check out the song, our conversation was quite in-depth and covered a variety of topics regarding what she’s been up to over the past year and so much more.
On the background of it all, she’s said, "The Mirror" got traction on TikTok when “I sampled myself breaking dry pasta and turned it into a song”. 6 months later and an insane amount of work and experimentation, the “pasta song” is out and about in the world and it’s undoubtedly surpassed all of our expectations. While it’s certainly got some similarities compared to her past discography, it fully does feel like an evolution of where she’s come from. Considering it’s 100% produced and created by Gabriella herself, it was such a fun time to sort of get in her head and learn how it all came to be. Additionally, on her TikTok, she’s created some super fun and engaging videos that give an open ended look into her process.
While she definitely said it the best during our conversation, the lyrics received a full breakdown and explanation. The immersive nature of this song might have your jaw on the floor as you attempt to wrap your head around the patterns and mesmerizing layers you’re hearing, but beneath it all are truly poetic and vivid words that piece together a moment in her life. From the sound of it, there’s plenty more headed our way in no time, and if this so happens to be your introduction to her music, let us tell you that she’s amassed a beautiful discography. You can audibly hear the maturity in her sound and it all feels like it’s come to a head with “The Mirror”.
