Frankie Orella surpasses expectations on explosive EP, "Sad In Paradise"

Setting high expectations for the rest of the year, Frankie Orella has kicked off 2023 extremely strong with her second EP, Sad In Paradise. We are loving this! Keep reading as we take a closer look into the record, as well as a background on this talented artist.

It’s been two and a half long years since we last reviewed Frankie Orella’s debut EP Stages of Grief and instantly you can feel the immense growth and stylistic changes on her newest effort, Sad In Paradise. Working with producer Mitch Parks, the two further escalated her modern pop sound for something that feels exceptionally elegant, elevates her already dynamic vocals, and focuses on the intricacies of the instrumental. We’re lovestruck with this record and cannot wait for everyone to experience it themselves.

Coming in at 5 total tracks with a piano version of “Paradise”, this record is simply 20 minutes of pure bliss and emotional artistry. While we don’t want to allude too much to her debut, it really should go without saying that there’s an intense maturity and massive glow up from what we’ve heard in the past. To begin, lyrically this is easily her strongest effort yet. Frankie has said, “I want my music to normalize the hardest parts of the human experience - to be the friend who sits with you as you share your deepest pain and thoughts that have made you feel isolated”. Undoubtedly, the themes and vivid words exemplify a vulnerability from an artist that’s gone over the top, lending a helping hand and shoulder for all those who can relate to her personal problems and situations. Each song feels like a delicate moment or story from her life as she so kindly lets you in to listen.

Putting the message aside though, there’s truly so many major standout moments that will have us coming back to try to chase the dragon. For example, there’s a specific breakdown in “Hold Me Together” that sent collective chills down our spines. Instrumentally, Sad In Paradise has gone above and beyond in creating a complexity of depth within its sound. Those production moments that create atmosphere are close behind, but ultimately Frankie serves as the constant glue and active beating heart of this album. Calling it sensational would somehow be an understatement, so please go ahead and listen for yourselves, we promise you won’t regret it.
