Fletcher, James blends genres on expansive debut, "All We're Meant To Do"
After a slow tease of singles leading up to the big release, we’re thrilled to announce that Fletcher, James’ debut album All We’re Meant To Do has finally arrived. Keep reading for an in-depth look into the record, in addition to a background on the artist.
Effortlessly infusing together a handful of genres to create something uniquely original and innovative, Fletcher, James’ record All We’re Meant To Do is already proving to be a timeless classic. From alternative pop to soul and even glimmers of disco, it’s truly one of those front to back album experiences that keeps on giving the more you pay attention. With a production that pops brightly as well, we can’t help but overwhelmingly recommend everyone hit the play button immediately.
On the background of the album, ultimately it’s a “snapshot of the past two years of my life, and with love and loss, fierce determination and quiet reflection all given their place”. No matter who you are or where you came from, chances are the last couple years have been unkind to you in some capacity. We’ve all got stories, but this now living and breathing piece of art gives listeners everywhere the opportunity to learn about a total stranger. The album undoubtedly takes inspiration from decades worth of artists and styles, but what Fletcher, James has done is take the highlights and configure them into something that sounds futuristic.
While there’s a ton of achievements present, the diverse usage of instrumentation has to be one of the main standouts considering he took control and did it all himself. With the exception of a feature from rising cloud-rap artist NTHN on “Restless”, the entirety of the record has come from the fingertips of Fletcher, James. Additionally, there’s plenty of individual songs that stand out on their own like “Quiet” or “Some Kind of Way”, but we really need to nail in the point that it’s a journey from start to finish that he gives you. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll check this one out as soon as humanly possible.
