Faulty Rivals craft a killer debut EP, "The Abused Will Ascend"

Ripping and roaring their way through a highly impressive debut EP titled The Abused Will Ascend, consider us brand new fans of Faulty Rivals. Read on for our full in-depth look at the record, in addition to a background on the band.

Currently based out of Kitchener, Ontario, these hard rockers called Faulty Rivals have just let loose an EP that’s chalked full of genre-diverse moments that are setting a precedent for the rest of their musical careers. Filled with heavy instrumentation, emotional vocals, but ultimately a positive vibe attached, it would 100% be in your best interest to give this one a spin as soon as possible.

Coming in at 4 total songs with a radio edit version of the lead single “Wasting Away”, Faulty Rivals spent zero time wasting about as they crafted this record to get straight to the point. While each song could certainly be picked out and named the lead single, we think that mainly because there were specific moments on every song that stood out from the rest. Whether it was specific vocal delivery moments or individual guitar solos that did the trick, this is about as cohesive as it gets for an EP.

Immediately as we finished up our first listen, the initial thought that popped into our heads was a resounding “when can we hear this live”. Due to the complexities in instrumentation and their abilities to implement so many subgenres of rock, we felt that music lovers across the spectrum could really get together and experience this as one. For example, the banjo’s on “Miracle” was a nice moment, but the consistent harmonies on the album felt anthemic and that an audience could easily sing those lyrics right back to them.

At right around 17 minutes in run time, we know for the absolute fact we’ll be coming back to The Abused Will Ascend for further listens to break down what we most likely missed. Going forward though, this is a band that clearly has found their formula and we wouldn’t want them to change anything up for the next release.

With that being said, don’t miss out on this stellar record that deserves to be cranked up loud. For all things Faulty Rivals, to listen, and to keep up with all future releases and information, please check out the following links below.
