Erin Jarvis reminisces on triumphant new single, "Still"
Released this past week on February 26th, 2021, Erin Jarvis has just shared her first new single of the year, “Still”. What a hit! Read along with us as we share our full thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist as well.
Making music from her bedroom in Nashville, Tennessee, Erin Jarvis is a writer, producer, and artist who has blown us away with this newest single. Taking influence and incorporating “organic percussion and dreamy synths”, Jarvis has a slew of songs set to release soon enough that all dive into her personal take on love lost.
We got a moment to catch up with the artist prior to her release, and she let us in on the origin story of the track. Says Jarvis, “I think it's mainly about reminiscing about someone who isn't in my life anymore and attempting to balance those unresolved feelings. In "Still," I admit that I haven't changed much, entertaining hypotheticals and chalking it up to casual curiosity, when really the only thing about me that hasn't changed is the way I think about this person.” Having been in the same situation ourselves, we always consider it to be a commendable act when an artist puts their thoughts on the line for the world to hear.
At just a tad under three minutes in overall run time, the artist has managed to craft an upbeat, incredibly catchy, and insightful piece of artwork that transcends time. Injecting bits of herself into the music, especially through its context and deep lyricism, this music is about as real as it possibly gets. A pet peeve of ours when it comes to music in general are the manufactured stories that can be made up in order to get the point across. In this case, the artist has genuinely come forward to create something majestic in sound, but also to help grieve the feelings she’s ultimately feeling.
As for the actual tones on the song, well overall the production is beyond words amazing. With a sort of club beat opening, the song eventually transforms into a vocals forward piece that allows Jarvis to not only show off her range, but to also showcase her clever lyrics that still haven’t gotten out of our head. To say the song is an earworm would be an understatement. Really, the way that it’s put together is more than just a mainstream pop track you’d hear on Top 40, whereas she’s blended elements of the alternative to really distinguish her overall sound from the rest of the pack. Whatever she’s doing, she’s crushing it.
Lastly, it’s got us incredibly excited for the music that hasn’t seen the light of day yet. It sounds like there’s more on the way, so we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for the inevitable release. For now, we’ll be spinning “Still”. Enjoy!
