Darrian Gerard gets nostalgic on pop punk classic, "I'm Not Sorry"
Celebrating its release day on August 13th, 2021, Darrian Gerard has just let loose her third and possible best single, “I’m Not Sorry”! We’re loving this one. Please read on for our full review of the track, as well as a background on the artist.
Currently based out of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Darrian Gerard is a true jack of all trades. She writes, records, and produces all of her own music, and on this newest single “I’m Not Sorry”, she’s nailed every single moment of a song we’ve quickly come to love. Influenced by legends such as Avril Lavigne, blink-182, and more, she’s definitely imparted her own signature style into a sound that is still super original.
Like so many over the past year, Darrian has taken the down time and honed in her skills on the production, instrumental, and self-creation side. Dialing in her own modern take on pop punk, “I’m Not Sorry” is about “being unapologetic and realizing you should never have said sorry for something in the first place”. The song was actually written in 2015 during a tough time and personal experience for the artist, but to be totally honest, the song feels as fresh as possible during a 2021 listen.
As fans of all of her listed influences, it was so much fun to get to review a track that came through with all the nostalgia of that era of music. She really has gone above and beyond to create a unique take on the pop punk scene. The standouts for us of course had to be her vocals and the way the raw emotion came through on the delivery of each and every line, however those classic drums that resonated throughout the song were not forgotten at all. For this being self-produced by her, she’s clearly been doing her homework because it came out incredibly well! The mixing was top notch, everything was perfectly in line, and we can confidently name this song and listening experience a winning one.
With this being her third single released so far, we’re quite excited to see how her musical journey pans out. In the meantime though, we’ve included all the important links below in order for you to listen and follow along for everything new.
