Dan Sheriston pens a love letter on his single, "Mission In Affection"
Leaning heavily into descriptive storytelling with his silky smooth vocals, Dan Sheriston has gone above and beyond with his single, “Mission In Affection”. Keep reading for a closer look into the track, as well as a much needed background on the artist.
With musical influences ranging widely from Ed Sheeran to Lil Baby, Dan Sheriston has still managed to infuse a whole lot of himself into his single, “Mission In Affection”. While it definitely takes certain elements from a varied list of artists, it’s still very much a unique sound that begs the listener to hear his story and immerse themselves in a relatively stripped back yet focused instrumentation. Plain and simple though, we’ve loved our multiple listens of this and are urging everyone to check it out.
Receiving help from his insanely talented and creative guitarist Harry, Dan Sheriston has ultimately crafted the lyrics on this song as an ode to his love for his girlfriend, Mia. Cleverly hidden in the title of the song (M.I.A), it’s hard to imagine a scenario that she wasn’t completely smitten with this love letter. The passages are meaningful beyond belief, but honestly the selling point for us was how he delivered each line. There’s genuine passion and love behind those words, not to mention that Dan’s vocals are legitimately fantastic. This was actually our introduction to his music, but it’s not going to be our last time enjoying it as he continues to share more.
At just under four and a half minutes of runtime, “Mission In Affection” is a song that actually has time to breathe instead of that forced feeling we get in pop music nowadays. Every moment feels like Dan’s vision is coming to life and undoubtedly one of our favorite moments is that switch in the middle where the instrumentation and production sort of converge to expand the song. We would’ve been just fine with an all acoustic track and vocals, but the added layers and complexities really boosted this one for us in the end. The versatility is endless and we’ve actually got no critiques whatsoever.
