Crawl Across The Sky release unbelievably epic new album, "The Void Alone"

Review by Austin Sher

Debuted to the world this weekend, Crawl Across the Sky has officially released his thought provoking new record, The Void Alone. Needless to say, we’re loving it! Please read along with us as we break down the record, in addition to a background on the artist as well.

Maryland native and post-metal project Crawl Across the Sky, from Nathan Kwon, is his newest effort that has come to life after two years of constant work and dedication.. Written during his time living in Chicago, The Void Alone is a near hour and forty-four minutes adventure and experience that draws from the eclectic direction in genre initially started with The Silent God to create an aural experience that is intended to immerse the listener into its small conceptual microcosm.

For the literary masters out there, The Void Alone touches and draws from philosophical inspirations such as Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Dostoyevsky, T. S. Eliot, Marilynne Robinson, and Sartre, to bolster its philosophical nature. Mixing traditional post-rock and post-metal influences, like This Will Destroy You and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, into black, death, doom, and sludge territory, we confidently feel that Crawl Across The Sky has released an absolutely unique (in every sense of the word) masterpiece to the world.

We’ll be honest as possible, this is not something that we’re used to reviewing, in the slightest. But with that being said, we are beyond impressed with how this epic turned out. Epic is not a word we use often to describe, but with this release, there’s almost no other words to describe it other than that. We mean all of this is in the best way possible, as it has without a doubt expanded our horizons into genres we didn’t even know existed.

Right off the bat, if you’re into experimental music and trying out things outside of your comfort zone, dig right in. If this happens to be a genre, or genre affiliate that you do listen to regularly, get ready, because this is serious work of art. It’s a bit hard to describe, because we can tell the immense amount of effort that went into it, but don’t let that discount exactly what you’re hearing.

There’s what seems to be an infinite amount of themes being covered on the record. Although it comes in at over an hour and a half, truly it still is cohesive as an album of its caliber can be. It has a signature sound of it, and being fans of Godspeed, it is certainly still in the same vein.

Now picking out a specific favorite track would be a near impossible feat, so we’ll let you choose your own. There’s so much greatness to pick out on here, we do encourage you to give the artist as much feedback as you possibly can. He deserves to be commended on the effort, because we know much how much went into something like this.

What we’re trying to say here is that we highly recommend listening, take the time out of your days and sit down with full focus to fully understand. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite artist.
