Coloured Clocks deliver a colorful performance on 6th album, "Flora"

Review by Austin Sher

Shared with the world earlier in 2020, Coloured Clocks has shared his sixth studio album, Flora. We absolutely loved it, so please read along with us as we break down our thoughts, in addition to a background on the artist as well.

For us, Flora came out of nowhere, and we’re glad it did. The record itself was recorded in Melbourne, Australia, in addition to Berlin and Cologne, Germany as well. Coloured Clocks itself is the masterful project from artist, James Wallace, who has been crafting up beautiful psychedelic works since the early 2010’s. Featuring lots of Juno, echoes, and reverb, his music is the perfect upbeat listen for the rock genre lover who’s looking to experiment a bit.

Coming in at a runtime of 48 minutes, spanning 13 colorful tracks, we were absolutely enthralled and taken into James’ world as soon as the album opener “In Your Heart” began playing. While we don’t say this about the majority of music we review, psychedelic rock is hands down our favorite genre to listen to and review. As massive lovers of Tame Impala, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Pond, and so many more, all of these highly successful bands show their influences within the overall sound on Flora.

It would honestly be impossible to pick a favorite song from the record, so all we can really do at this point is give you a quick run down of the ones you should be listening to just in case you don’t want to listen to it all. For starters, the album opener “In Your Heart”, “Broken Bones”, “Lion in the Sky”, and “The Waiter” were absolutely some of the standouts on the record. While we did pick these four, we need to emphasize that a full listen from front to back is how the album was meant to be listened to, so please do that!

While this was our first dive into the music of Coloured Clocks, let it be known that it certainly will not be our last. We’re constantly searching for the next big thing in psychedelic pop music, and we think we’ve found it. Considering there’s five other albums of his that we haven’t checked out, they’ve all just gone to the top of our listening queue.

So with this all being said, I hope we don’t need to convince you to move ahead in your listen. If you’re looking for something truly unique and creative, look no further, because this one’s for you.
