Laying it all out for us and providing a much needed background on his project C0D3 7’s record titled 7, we got the special opportunity to sit and speak in-depth with Cody Steinmann. Please check out our full interview below.

Currently based out of Minneapolis, Cody Steinmann is more than just your average musician on the surface. While we did talk all about his project C0D3 7’s record, he’s part of so many other groups in addition to his teaching. You may recognize him from Cody Steinmann Trio, Sightless Quartet, Cody Steinmann Band, The Session, and many more. In this case though, we broke down 7, an extremely versatile and genre-bending record that has simply taken us by hold. If this is your introduction to the artist and any iteration of his music, we’ve found it to be an ideal jumping off point.

Although this is technically his debut album considering it was released in September of 2019, it’s already stood the test of time over these past 3 years. He’s gone on to release plenty more, but our focus transfixed on the makings and meaning behind the album. Now our intention here isn’t to spoil, rather to inform you that this was 100% an interview that was different from all the others. Typically ours are structured with questions to implore, but in this case, Cody so eloquently gave a background on his upbringing, the inspirations, and so much more surrounding. We’re urging everyone out there to listen to our chat.

As for the music itself, well it’s really better listened to rather than explained, but it’s sort of this jazz fusion that features elements of Hip Hop, R&B, and beyond. While each song has its own meaning where the track listing and titles really come into play, your focus should be on the lyricism because that’s where this thing shines the brightest. Cody is as talented as a storyteller as he is a composer. He enlisted help to get this all completed, but the inner workings are completely of his own volition.
