Coal Field Hotel succeed on end of year single, "West Wind"

Following up their 2019 EP, Wistful, we’re happy to announce that Coal Field Hotel is finishing up the year with a brand new single, titled “West Wind”. Do yourselves a huge favor and read along with us for our detailed review of the track, as well as a background on the band as well.
Offering up a unique nostalgia, Coal Field Hotel are fusing together multiple genres of music in their overall sound such as Ambient, Downtempo, and Post-Rock. This Chicago, Illinois band are the creation of members Tim Palumbo, Nick Palumbo, and Kyle Purpura, who have been making music together going on 13 years now. Together they are creating based off of their past memories, but more specifically, the music that they want to hear themselves.
In the most recent iteration of their music, the band has put together a near 4 minute instrumental that encompasses all of their past sounds and building to a beautiful climax from start to finish. After being overly impressed just by listening to “West Wind”, we had no choice but to check out their past works like the aforementioned EP Wistful and 2015 full length record, Labyrinth Formula. Since then, they’ve managed to truly hone in their signature sound and all the right chords and formulas have come together on this newest single.
With the release of a new song coming at the end of the year though, we can only sit back and hope that it’s going to be part of something bigger. While we’d never want to rush artists into pushing out unfinished work, we’re crossing our fingers that we see another EP or LP put out in the New Year. If “West Wind” so happens to be the lead track released, then we can confidently say they’re headed in the right direction and off to a great start.
While the sound was traditionally heavy, as you’d expect from the influenced genres listed, it was also quite approachable for those who may be hesitant to check out music like this that might not be something they’d traditionally listen to. What we’ll say in that case is that we’re urging you to give it a shot and to listen to the rest of their discography. Put on your best pair of headphones and sink into this one.
The main point that we’re trying to convey here is that Coal Field Hotel are the real deal. Chicago has been churning out some highly talented acts these past 5-10 years, so it’s no surprise that this band falls within that mix. So give it a listen and let us/them know what you think!
