Clay Sutton puts forward a lyrically profound debut, "Striving"

From freestyles on Soundcloud to his debut release titled “Striving”, Clay Sutton has come out with this lyrically focused single. Please read on for our full analysis of the track, as well as a background on the artist.

Written as a reflection of where he is in life and what he’s working towards, Clay Sutton’s debut single “Striving” is everything we’d hoped it would be. Honest and original right at the forefront, this is the definition of a solo project that aims to build on itself in the coming months and years. To get in on the ground floor of Clay’s music, we wholeheartedly recommend you check this one out as soon as you can.

Besides the beat used by waytoolost, everything you’re about to hear all the way down to the recording has come directly from the artist. For this Ohio-based musician, he’s taken cues from some of the greats like Andre 3000, Kanye West, and Kid Cudi, however the freshness of this track is his signature sound coming together for the future. To be honest, we’re quite interested to hear those original Soundcloud recordings to make comparisons on the past and now.

With hopes to release a full mixtape sometime in the New Year, Clay is legitimately putting the ideals behind “Striving” into real life motion. So much of what we enjoyed about this track was the full on openness to explain where he’s at and where he’s going. There’s a real redeeming factor that comes in in terms of vulnerability here. It’s something we feel that so many artists struggle with, but in Clay’s situation, he’s using it to his advantage in order to evoke emotion out of the listener. We particularly loved that!

All that being said though, Clay has impressed us and set a strong base for the future going forward. He’s so clearly got the talents to blow this up and with his lyricism game stronger than ever, it’s going to be a total treat to get to see his evolution in the coming year.
