Clay Mac James tours his debut album, "Mostly Motionless" - Interview

Coming hot out of the gate with a debut album titled Mostly Motionless, we got the incredibly unique opportunity to speak with the artist behind the greatness, Clay Mac James. Please watch our full interview below.

Currently representing the Chicago Hip Hop scene, Clay Mac James is an independent artist who aims to make listeners across the globe fall in love with his “wavy” style. Incorporating dreamy synthesizers, 808 percussive elements, and softly strummed wet guitar, he’s also adding in a set of fresh vocals inspired by the likes of Mac Miller and Chuck Berry.

To begin, we can’t overstate how much fun of an interview this really was. Clay showed off his true colors as an artist, but even a whole different side of him personality wise that just made us overly respect him as a person. We would obviously prefer for the readers out there to turn into viewers and watch the interview, but if you can only do one thing, the priority should be to listen to “Mostly Motionless”. It’s a really powerful and dynamic record that hits hard lyrically, especially with its focus on depression, emotions, and so much more.

As great as the album might sound within its backing beats and instrumentations, it really does hit deep thematically. It’s worth your time to give it a close listen that examines the words coming across to make connections. Ultimately it felt like something super relatable to the lives we live, so it’s nice to confide in others and know you’re not alone going through the struggles of life.

To the interview portion though, we got a direct line to the life of Clay Mac James and what he’s all about. Not to spoil too much, but if you’re interested in the background of his life, processes as an established artist, and what we can expect going forward, then this interview is definitely for you. One of the highlights for us though was absolutely nerding out on the greatness that is Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. We definitely got side tracked for a minute while we discussed this dream collaboration, as well as side projects such as Jay Watson’s GUM and Pond as well. For fans of those psychedelic masterpieces, you’ll definitely want to tune in.

Wrapping it though, Mostly Motionless should 100% be the next piece of hip hop music that enters your life. At 15 total tracks, spanning just about 50 minutes, it’s a musical journey and experience that’s definitely worth your time.
