Chase Given debuts his timely and relevant new single, "I'm Not Hungry, I'm Just Bored"
Review by Austin Sher
Released on July 21st, 2020, Chase Given is back with his relevant and catchy new single, “I’m Not Hungry, I’m Just Bored”. Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the track, as well as a little bit of background on the artist as well.
These days for Chase Given, his music is geared towards Adult Contemporary, with a folk touch. His main inspiration comes from James Taylor, John Mayer, Elton John, Sam Cooke, & Chicago. Speaking more on this single though, you’ll immediately notice more of a classic country feel (still true to some James Taylor and Elton John). This song is out of his experience with the pandemic lifestyle we are living through. You’ll also notice it’s a bit “tongue in cheek”, but at the end of the day, it’s a fun song that you’ll find yourself singing along to towards the end.
Show business and performing have been coursing through Chase for nearly his whole life at this point. Starting at the age of 3, Chase first stepped on stage and has been addicted since. With over 30 years on stage, and 20 years as a professional musician, Chase has evolved into a well rounded dynamic performer. With over 200 songs in his song list, covering a wide variety of genres, from decades as early as the 1950's through current hits, Chase can provide music to enjoy during dinner, or get you to dance and shout! Additionally, Chase has been blessed to share the stage with Rascal Flatts, John Mayer, Gavin Degraw, Billy Ray Cyrus, SheDaisy, and many more.
Now that we’re a bit more familiar with Chase’s work and musical history, let’s get to the music! In a time where we all need a smile, a laugh, and good feelings in our life, this song could not have possibly come at a better time. Considering all there really is to do these days is eat, the song title is even more relevant than it ever has been. Hardly ever does a song come across our table that makes us audibly laugh, so this had to be a first. Honestly though, besides the relevant and intriguing lyricism, the instrumentation on this track was stellar.
We’re big fans of country over here, so when the strings section hit and the solo brokedown about midway through the track, we were sold, this was easily our song of the month. It has a bit of country to it, a lovely helping of folk, and the vocals fit the atmosphere pretty nicely. While there isn’t too much of Chase’s discography featured on streaming sites, we’ll definitely be digging deep into his back catalog, because we truly did enjoy what we heard.
Whether you’re in the mood for a happy song or just need a laugh in your life, definitely go ahead and take a listen. For everything Chase Given, please check out the following links below.
