Casey Noel creates a compelling new single, "Playing God"
Released officially on March 10th, 2022, Casey Noel has just served up a dynamic new performance on her single, “Playing God”. Please read on for our glowing review of the track, as well as a background on this artist.
Representing Greensboro, North Carolina, Casey Noel is a Costa Rican/American singer and songwriter who’s consistently putting her all into each piece of music she’s released thus far. Impressing us thoroughly on her newest song “Playing God”, she’s managed to blend together a compelling story, inventive instrumentation, and a vocal delivery for the ages. Plain and simple, we loved this song and we think you will too!
On the background of the track, Casey says that it’s “a modern take on the murder ballad tradition”. She’s covering an important topic like domestic abuse, however she’s juxtaposed the difficult theme with a groovy instrumentation. Kicking things right off with a small dose of funk on the guitar, the song quickly pivots into a hybrid country song paired with Casey’s classic vocals. It takes about 30 seconds or so to get into the rhythm, but once you’re feeling it, it’s legitimately difficult to stop listening.
Truly though, from start to finish, it’s almost as if she casts a spell over you and transports you to this atmospheric world of sound. It’s not often that an instrumentation can feel so different from the genre presented, but it works and it’s infectious. She’ll make you feel like you want to sing along by the end and maybe even dance a bit too. For us, this song checks all the boxes for what we consider to be a great song. You’ve got clever songwriting that tells an out of the box story, and in today’s music scene, that seems to be the most difficult task.
With all that being said, we overwhelmingly approve of “Playing God”. Please do yourselves all a favor and check out the links below so that you can give it a listen and of course follow Casey on her social media to stay up to date for all to come!
