Camilo EG goes in-depth on debut EP, "Spark & Gasoline" (Interview)
With the release of his debut EP Spark & Gasoline being shared on April 2nd, 2021, it was only right that we sat down with the man himself for a full interview detailing the record’s process. Watch our full talk below.
Like all of our interviews, we’re going to kick things off here by saying the best way to get into the mind of the artist isn’t through the article, it’s by watching them speak passionately about what moves them. With that being said though, Camilo EG’s debut EP Spark & Gasoline 100% needs to be the next record in your listening lineup. You don’t need to watch to get that point across, but we still recommend it.
For those unaware though, Camilo EG is an incredibly talented artist who was born in Colombia, raised in Texas, and now resides in San Diego, California. Exploring themes that cover adventure, love, loss, and the human spirit, this debut is blending an immense of amount of genres. You’ll hear glimmers and focuses of heartland rock, metal, folk, and pop wrapped up in a decade-spanning sound.
According to Camilo EG on the background of the record, “My EP, Spark and Gasoline, covers the emotions and experiences that I went through after returning to San Diego from a multi-month long Latin America trip in mid-2019 up to the first few days of quarantine in 2020. A spark is a momentary element that, once fused with fuel, causes a bright, beautiful, and sometimes deadly chain-reaction. As fast as it comes to fruition, it also fades into memory—something which, to me, represents our very existence.”
Spanning five songs and twenty fantastic minutes, the record manages to hit a serious amount of high points given its short nature. We’re not joking when we say there’s a ton of different genre influence here. Really, every song jumps from sound to sound, but the artist has managed to make it so that it’s one cohesive run from the first track to the last. After listening to Camilo name drop all of the help on the production and instrumental side that put their love into this record, it’s really no surprise it came out as well as it did.
If hearing the artist openly talk about the creation and path he took to shape Spark & Gasoline wasn’t enough for you to take the plunge and dive in, then sorry, but you’re a lost cause. Kidding! Seriously though, do yourselves a huge favor and expand your mind and ears for a bit by checking this out. It’s bound to put you in a good mood and become a fan for life. We know we will be. Enjoy!
