Caesar Roosevelt opens up on expansive debut, "Lonely Hours"
Delivering on a full start to finish album experience, we’re loving Caesar Roosevelt’s first musical offering, Lonely Hours. Read on for an in-depth review into the record, in addition to a background on this artist.
Based all the way in India, Caesar Roosevelt’s journey to making music has truly been a long time coming. After starting to perform live in clubs around the age of 17, the slow build towards the release of Lonely Hours had begun. Surrounding the entire album though are contextual themes about severely difficult personal experiences they’ve had to endure. We recommend giving this one a close and focused listen to really break down the separate story lines.
Self-describing the writing process as very intense, it all really makes sense when you put the lyrics together into complete songs. While we could dive into each song individually, we also feel the need to point out the sort of laid back feeling that the production gives off too. With the help of Emiliano Di Fiori and engineering by Dan Kjellberg, these collaborators really came together to create something beautiful in every sense of the word.
Although the album is 13 songs in length, there were specific standout tracks for us like “Symphony”, “Cigarettes After Sex”, and “Wild”. As mentioned though, listening to the full album really does give the cohesive feeling that you’re diving into the world of a musician that was deliberately and carefully crafted. The full listen from start to finish is 100% worth your while, but in the future, we’ll see ourselves coming back to those specific songs as they’re really a different vibe in our eyes.
All in all though, it’s going to be such a great time getting to see the trajectory of Caesar Roosevelt’s music in the future. It’s hard to imagine a follow up record that delivers bigger than this, but we’re confident it’ll hit just the same.
