9 o'clock Nasty let loose on latest EP, "Sex"

Don’t let the name of the record deter you, 9 o’clock Nasty’s latest EP titled Sex is a slow burning rock EP that we’re totally loving. Read on for our full review of the album, as well as a background on the band.

Sexually charged in its lyricism but completely innovative on the instrumental end, 9 o’clock Nasty have completed nailed it on their EP, Sex. You’ll get the gist for what this record is about fairly quickly, but these songs also revolve around jealousy and the “endless transactions of relationships and the pure charisma of a man in his meaty prime”. Don’t wait any longer, you must check this one out as soon as humanly possible.

Bordering on a garage punk sound throughout the entirety of Sex, the band has clearly brought a rougher style into the mix that we’ve come to love. Spread across three total tracks, spanning right around 9 minutes in length, each one sort of creates its own atmospheric world from start to finish. Although there are moments where the punk genre enters into the mix, we think one of the highlights is the breadth of sound that 9 o’clock Nasty have delivered as a whole.

While this was our first introduction to the band, just these three songs have intrigued us to check out the rest. We sincerely enjoyed that it feels like they don’t take themselves overly seriously in the way that they present themselves, but there is still a real professionalism when it comes to the song structures and production. Anyone can learn to play an instrument, but they’ve taken those skills and still created something that’s original, fresh, and breaks the mold of the boring mainstream.

If this is your introduction to the band, or even if it’s not, we highly suggest you dig into this album right now. We’ve made it super easy because all the links to listen, follow along, and to keep up with everything else on the way can be found below. Enjoy!
