Brooke Casey returns for a tell all on EP, "Playing Pretend" - Interview
A little over a year to the day since we last spoke with Brooke Casey, but thankfully, she’s made a return with an outstanding new EP titled Playing Pretend. Please check out our full interview with the talented artist below.
Gaining life experiences and penning them to beautiful music, Brooke Casey is back and better than ever with an all new EP that she’s titled Playing Pretend. Luckily for us, we got the opportunity to sit and speak with her again for an extended conversation that highlighted what exactly inspired this record, what she’s been up to over the past year, and so many more topics. If for some reason you’ve yet to explore her music, now’s the perfect time to do a deep dive on her growing discography.
Considering that it’s been over a year since we chatted about Clarity, a fair amount of the interview spent time making comparisons to the process of creating this and how Brooke has grown since then. Ultimately the lyricism displayed on Playing Pretend will tell the listener all they really need to know about the situations endured, but it certainly was a plus to get to hear how it all went down as well. So much of the greatness from Brooke’s music consistently comes from her vivid storytelling and how she so effortlessly walks you through it all, but on the production and sonic scale of the EP, there’s absolutely no doubt that things have expanded in the sound. As an artist, you’re always growing and learning, but this is a wonderful display of how much a year can really change things.
At 6 total songs and right around 25 minutes in length, Brooke immerses you into this album experience with the opener “Should Know Better” that serves as the overture of what’s to come. Of course we’ve put an emphasis on the messaging and themes covered, but let it be known that instrumentally there’s a ton going on to pique your interest and get you grooving too. We don’t want to spoil much else, so please do yourselves all a favor and get listening as soon as you can!
