Britt Devens gets personal on touching EP, "Back To Me"
Laidback in sound but brimming with emotion and a strong message, we’ve fallen in love with Britt Deven’s new EP, Back To Me. Please read on for our full review of the record, as well as a much needed background on this talented artist.
Bringing a new perspective and folksy sound into the mix, Britt Devens’ EP Back To Me is nothing short of amazing. Raising awareness for mental health is one of her main goals, but in the process, she’s bared her soul within the close to home stories she’s shared. On this acoustically awesome record, our attention was held from the opening notes to the closing moments. We’re highly encouraging all to give it a listen.
Centering the theme of “take care of you” around the entirety of Back To Me, one of the main aims is to promote self-care and self-love. It’s quite obvious within the lyrics of course, but never hurts to continue to make that connection. At just 4 songs in length, running right around 18 minutes, for us this was the ideal bite-size EP to introduce ourselves into the world of Britt Devens. She’s gone above and beyond in crafting this record of course, but also created fans for life in the process.
On her musicianship as a whole, we particularly enjoyed the sort of stripped back nature on the record. Instead of including gimmicky after production effects, she’s relied on her commanding vocals and guitar playing to really lure everyone in. Right off the bat, you can feel the complete genuineness flowing through the opener “Truth and Love”, and it doesn’t let up until the end. The passion comes through clear as day and we can confidently call this one a winner without thinking twice about it.
Aside from the music for a moment, she’s also using her platform to support and raise awareness for The Phoenix - a safe and active sober community for those seeking recovery from addiction. For those interested, you can donate HERE.
Wrapping it all up though, there isn’t a single negative we could say here, it would just be a lie. Once again, we are recommending you dig into this record with open hearts and ears. You can do so by checking out the links below.
