Ben Shawaer answers our hard hitting questions in a full Q&A
Ben Shawaer is ready to make waves in the Electronic Dance Music world. Despite his mysterious persona, his distinct sound and style is ready to be shared with the world; intricately layering sonic elements and blending orchestral inspirations, from movies and video games he is ready to display his skills with new releases. We sat down with Ben’s manager as he shared Ben’s answers with us about his likes.
Vinyl or CDs?
USB Key. I would have said vinyls at first, but he hasn't used them for a long time.
Solo work or collaborations?
Collaborations. He likes to collaborate with singers, but he has never collaborated on a project for the instrumental part yet. He thinks it's interesting to do this kind of thing, to share your world, and learn.
Loudness or dynamics?
Dynamics. He likes music that breathes, even if he doesn't always make it. However, loudness is not always associated with distortion, and non-existent dynamics; he is working on that at the moment.
Friday night or Saturday night?
He likes both, as long as he makes music.
Radio version or extended mix?
Extended mix. I think you speak for the sake of listening. I think it depends on the context of listening. Extended mixes allow you to get into the song more gently, and appreciate it differently, in addition, to providing additional content for DJs.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunrise. But ultimately, he never sees either of them.
Analogue hardware or digital?
Digital. He doesn't have any hardware tools, but he thinks it must have an interesting coloring to the sound.
Soundcloud or Beatport?
Soundcloud. Soundcloud is a good place to get lost and find interesting music, that you would never have found elsewhere. There are a lot of inspired creators releasing music on this platform.
Original or remix?
Original. Original if you speak for Ben, otherwise, listening to remixes doesn't bother him that much. Furthermore, there are remixes that are so well known, that we no longer know which one is the original.
Big nights out or chilled nights in?
Chilled nights in. It depends on the context. He’s also able to go out late into the night, but he doesn't do it often.
We thank Ben’s manager for his time sharing the artist’s favorites, sharing an extra glimpse into his world, and while he gets ready to share new music in the coming months, don’t forget to follow him across social media to remain updated on his latest releases and projects.
