Anders Jörnesten shares stripped back & lyric focused debut, "Astrology"

Lyrically powerful and expressive from beginning to end, Anders Jörnesten has gone above and beyond in delivering beauty on his debut album, Astrology. Please read on for a closer look into the record, as well as a background on this emerging artist.

What started out as playing guitar as a casual hobby for most of his life, quickly turned into shifting that focus to original works. Fast forward nearly two years and Anders Jörnesten’s first collection of songs has come together for a truly outstanding album that he’s titled Astrology. The lead up has been long with singles and an EP shared in between, but now having experienced the album in full, it’s surpassed all expectations with what it has given us. Without a doubt, we’re highly recommending all give it a listen.

Coming in at 10 total tracks, spanning right around 40 minutes in length, Astrology does a fantastic job of transcending genre but certainly including glimmers of folk, country, and classic Americana. You can feel the inspiration come through from some of the greats like John Prine or Colter Wall, but Anders has 100% brought a signature touch and essence to all of it. He kicks things off with the opener “All Alone” to give the listener a taste of what’s to come, but you can’t help but notice just how distinct his vocals really are. He’s got a deep delivery that’s for sure, but there’s also such a warmness and commanding presence that he holds, it’s hard to shift your focus elsewhere which is always the goal these days.

As most of the record is basically Anders, his voice, and an acoustic guitar, Astrology feels raw and focused from start to finish. With that being said, so much of the emphasis goes directly to the lyrics and themes covered in which he talks about loneliness, a desire to escape, nature, and so much more. This type of stripped back record doesn’t need any over the top production flourishments or catchy gimmicks, rather the greatness of it all lies in the sincerity in which Anders opens up about his life and experiences. In particular, some of our favorite songs were “Flies on the Wall”, “Wanted Dead or Alive”, and “The Story of Icarus”, however we’d urge everyone to give this an uninterrupted and complete listen.

For now, we’re patiently waiting for a follow up coming hopefully soon. For everyone else though, please go ahead and click those links below to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all major news.
