Ammon and Liahona Olayan team up on catchy new single, "Boom"
Brother and sister duo Ammon and Liahona Olayan have beyond impressed us with their newest collaboration single, “Boom”. Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on these talented artists.
So the story goes, 18-year-old Ammon Olayan and his 17-year-old sister Liahona began writing songs out of boredom when their family moved into a tent in Hawaii to be closer to their heritage. Ammon and Liahona both auditioned for this season of American Idol and each received a golden ticket to Hollywood. The siblings also received the opportunity to perform together for the judges, which was televised on February 21st.
Released on February 26th via Empire Records, Ammon and Liahona have absolutely consumed our ears with this highly addictive and catchy new single. One of the things that we love most about it is that it’s such a lovely story of how the song came about, but rather that family stuck together and decided to create a thing of beauty in the form of music. Music is always powerful, but the bonds it creates and the magic that has happened here is unprecedented. Needless to say, we are loving this song.
What sounds like a mainstream pop hit is actually so much more than that when you listen a lot closer. Featuring glimmers of modern day R&B, a hefty dose of soul, and a whole lot of funk, “Boom” has been consuming us as music listeners. It sort of scratches that itch for a type of music that’s good at all times of the day. Whether you’re relaxing at home, going on a long drive, or trying to focus, there’s a time and place for you to click play on this one.
Seeing as though it appears that Ammon and Liahona only have this singular track together so far, our hopes are that there’s more on the way soon. While we would never want to rush artists into creating more, as it takes time, more collaboration and songs of this nature would be accepted with wide open arms and ears. It’s no doubt in our minds that once the rest of the world hears “Boom”, it will have that same effect on them.
It also looks like each of the artists has solo work of their own. Obviously we had to do our due diligence and check it out. To no surprise, it’s equally as fantastic. As mentioned though, our hope is that a collaboration between the two happens, but if they decide to go their separate ways and keep on with creating, we’ll happily support them in their individual endeavours.
