Amethyst Alchemist's J Ragland shares details on "Live at The Makers' Space" - Interview
Just released on November 1st, 2022, the project of Amethyst Alchemist just shared their first ever live performance from The Makers’ Space in Brooklyn, New York. Please watch our full interview with J Ragland below to learn all about it.
Coming together to mark their first time playing together as a band, Amethyst Alchemist crushed it in all regards during Live at The Makers’ Space. Featuring a handful of both originals and covers, showing the many capabilities and their collective breadth of talent, we got the opportunity to speak with J Ragland who gave us a necessary insight into the dynamic of this project. For everyone being introduced to their music for the first time, we’d urge you to enjoy this conversation as well!
Covering two of our personal favorites, “Space Oddity” by David Bowie and “Back to Black” by Amy Winehouse, Amethyst Alchemist aren’t shy in the slightest when choosing polar opposites to cover. As for their original tunes though, that’s where they really blew us away the most. Described by J as “somewhere in the realm of shoegazy campfire songs”, we honestly can’t help but agree with that statement after listening through multiple times. Each member of the band brings their own unique take and talents to the mix and we’re seriously excited to see what else gets shared in the coming months and years.
Rounding out the rest of Amethyst Alchemist is Jesse “Juice” Tmm (lead guitar), Judette Elliston (keys/vocals), and Max Sundue (drums). While they’ve all been influenced by a variety of different genres, styles, and sounds, this project is ultimately open-ended in the sense that we probably won’t hear the same thing twice going forward. During our chat, J gave us a look ahead at how this project might be operated as a collective and that listeners can expect plenty of experimentation down the line as they continue to make music that excites them first and foremost.
With all that being said, what better way to introduce yourself to a band than with a visual component. We’ve included all the important links below to listen, follow along, watch, and of course to keep up with all future releases and information. Enjoy!
