Amanda B. Perry expertly crafts an emotional 2nd record, "My Time"

Releasing officially on October 14th, 2022, we got the special opportunity to preview Amanda B. Perry’s sophomore record, My Time. It is wonderful from beginning to end. Keep reading for a closer look into the album, as well as a background on the artist.

Currently representing the music scene in the Twin Cities, Amanda B. Perry is over delivered significantly on her latest effort, My Time. Listeners can expect a diverse range of Soul, Americana, and glimmers of pop through her passion-filled performance. With inspirations coming from the likes of David Gray and Adele, she’s still managed to create something overtly original and fresh sounding, expounding on the emotional side of expressive lyricism. We’ve sincerely enjoyed our listen and cannot wait for listeners to dig in come release day.

Following up her debut By Special Request, which we’ve now had the chance to listen to as well, she took everything that worked so well and leveled up in a sense through nearly every facet. Coming in at 9 total tracks, each song feels like its own little atmospheric world of style and flourish through powerful vocal delivery. Of course Amanda is backed up by a stellar cast of musicians adding in their own elements of beauty, but it’s honestly hard to deny that she’s the focal point of the operation. For the most part, My Time delves lyrically into both the “bad and the ugly” of relationships, but in a way that sort of feels hopeful and optimistic for a better future. Our recommendation here would be to start from the beginning and try to connect the dots within her words as the album unfolds and you capture the experiences.

We had personal favorites such as “Gates”, “Spinning”, and “Without You”, but truly each track on its own is a feat and isolated performance worth enjoying. The greatest instrument of them all is just how dramatic Amanda was able to be in her vocal range, using that talent to drive suspense and literally keep the listener on the edge of their seat. It’s not so often that you hear a vocalist that actually sounds unique these days, but for us, it’s where this album shines the brightest. You’re receiving a raw, emotional, and downright explosive display of musicianship spread across an absolutely stellar album.
