A.M. Sokoll shares his uniquely diverse debut EP, "Chateau"
Review by Austin Sher
Released this past week on October 2nd, A.M. Sokoll has officially debuted his new EP, Chateau. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the record, in addition to a bit of background on the artist as well.
Currently based out of Seattle, Washington, the artist has based the content and themes on this EP directly off of his life experiences. What you’ll be able to tell almost immediately within the lyricism are that the stories he tells are very clearly personal to the artist. After moving from Detroit, Michigan and learning to play the piano, his musical career officially began.
Our first impressions of the record are that A.M. so very clearly has a delivery and style of his own. Of all the artists we’ve written about during our time, it’s like nothing we’ve ever heard, yet we mean that in the best way possible. Considering he took his time creating during the process of EP making, we’re thrilled to say that it turned out great. An artist can be so hard on themselves, with constant rewrites, reworks, and self-doubt, but we hope here that A.M. ended up loving the final product.
While it would be hard to pick a favorite because they’re all so unique in their own right, we do feel that the opener “Coffee” sets the tone for the entire EP. Coming in at 6 songs, each one tells its own unique story. What we really appreciated the most is that the artist isn’t doing things within the “mainstream”. It’s so paramount these days as an emerging artist to create your own vision and atmosphere that’s true to yourself and we feel that he has 100% succeeded in that right.
Seeing as this is his debut record, we’re ecstatic to know that we’re jumping on the fan train towards the beginning. While we thoroughly enjoyed listening to this from start to finish, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t looking forward to whatever is next for A.M. Sokoll. With such a unique voice and delivery, the options are limitless for where the artist could go with his sound. As long as the production quality stays as top notch as it was on Chateau, we have the utmost confidence that he’ll make the right choices when crafting a future sound.
