Taking us through the always hard experience of losing a close friend, collaborators Alex and Bobby Yaps have given us all a background on their loss. This song goes out to Shawn Saguid and so many others who were lost between 2017 and now. It’ll become quite apparent as you start listening, but this is quite a somber track that is only amplified by its incredible songwriting and instrumentation. Without a doubt, we highly recommend you check it out.
Sometimes the best songs are the ones that are written almost immediately. It didn’t take long for “How Can You Be Gone?” to be penned as we can only imagine all the inspiration was just bursting to be written on a page. Accompanied by Alex’s vocals, we found it to be so brave and moving the way she manages to deliver line after line. For so many that are mourning, they’ve got different ways to show their grief, but we always find that creating beauty in the sadness is the best way to cope. Forever and always, this song will exist to listen to when you want to capture the positive memories of the person.
Speaking on the instrumentation, we particularly enjoyed the refrained piano that took a backseat to the song. Anything over the top or any added production gimmicks would’ve 100% taken away from the seriousness of it all. In the mix, the piano almost feels like background noise as Alex’s vocals provide everything you could ever need from a song of this magnitude. Truly, her dynamic sound and conviction only makes this song better in all regards. She’s convincing, empowering, and sincere from start to finish.
