Action Doll Joe shreds on latest single, "Paper Heart"
Shared officially on February 12th, 2021, Action Doll Joe is back with his first single of the year, titled “Paper Heart”. We’re loving it! Please read along with us as we share our analysis of the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.
From the dusty deserts of California, Action Doll Joe is the work of Elijah Barrera. Crafting upbeat alternative pop punk music that takes inspiration from legends like Relient K, Panic! at the Disco, and more, the artist is injecting his own sense of style into a musical genre that we love so much. On his newest single, he’s managed to strike gold in a short amount of time.
So his story goes, Elijah went all in on music after he realized how much it could help him within his individual struggles. Studying music in college, learning the industry, and eventually putting together tunes of his own, he works day in and day out to make sure that what he’s creating is unique, original, and dance-worthy.
Having seen success with his debut EP, Hello!, released last year, “Paper Heart” is the first single (of hopefully many more) to be released in this new year. We have to say that considering his discography is limited so far, he’s done a beyond amazing job at differentiating himself from the likes of every other band in the genre. Instead of giving a straightforward pop punk performance, he’s managed to combine a diverse set of instrumentation and jam pack into a song that’s barely over two minutes in runtime.
With that being said, the only truly negative thing we’d have to say is that we wish the song was longer! Seeing as though the song itself doesn’t waste even a second of time with any boring intros, and jumps straight into it, we suppose the highlights are that the artist most likely got all his ideas across in all the time allotted. However, we loved it no matter how long it was. If anything, it’s impressive that it feels full and complete given the run time.
Back to the instrumentation, just wow is what we’d have to say. We don’t want to focus in too much or ramble about the run time, but the fact that he was able to fit in a rousing synth and guitar breakdown to tie the song together might just be the best thing about it. Besides the undisputed fact that it’s just a catchy song in full, the background is what made it most for us.
Overall though, we really do have to commend the artist on how much ground he’s covered in such a short amount of time on his releases. We’re incredibly happy to know that there’s more music on the way this year, but in the meantime, we highly suggest you give “Paper Heart” all the listens. Enjoy!
