Reemerging into the music scene with an absolutely stellar new EP aptly titled It’s Been Too Long, we’re thrilled with Aaron MacDonald’s latest release. Please read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the artist.

For the first time since 2009, Aaron MacDonald is back and better than ever with his new EP, It’s Been Too Long. Channeling a hybrid mix of alternative, country, folk, and rock, you can fully expect a captivating sound that’s filled to the brim with love and soul. Without a doubt, we can just let you know right now that this is certainly a record that we are highly recommending you check out as soon as possible.

After touring extensively through Canada throughout the 2000’s, Aaron MacDonald is no stranger to music in the slightest. For the fans out there of Nathaniel Rateliff or John Prine, this is 100% up your alley in terms of vibe and atmosphere, however Aaron has definitely brought his own ingenuity into the mix here that comes across flawlessly. There are seemingly infinite things that we loved about the EP, but a real standout had to be the complex lyricism and stories being told. As vibrant as the instrumentation was from the start to finish, don’t skip out on focusing in on the overall message.

Now that Aaron MacDonald has fully immersed himself back into music, he’s already gaining notoriety again in the form of being one of CBC Music Searchlight’s Top 100 Artists of 2021. After listening multiple times through at this point, we’re not surprised. For us, this was more of a cohesive record, mainly meaning that we don’t recommend blindly skipping around the songs. Start it off with the opener “Gonna Get There” and let it flow until the very end. At just 22 minutes in total runtime, it’s the perfect bite size listen to put you in a great and uplifting mood.

While we mentioned the lyrics are quite nice to connect the dots with, there’s no way we could get through this without highlighting Aaron’s vocals. The delivery is sincere and he legitimately had us hanging on every word. His style was quite unique to us, which is what drew us in the first place, but we’re sure it’s a major part that you’ll love as listeners.
