Primavera Sound LA postponed to 2021, but what does this mean for Coachella?
Review by Austin Sher
In an unfortunate, but very expected move, Primavera Sound Los Angeles has officially stated this morning that what would have been its inaugural festival in Los Angeles, will in fact be postponed until 2021.
In a statement released by the organizers through their social media this morning, Primavera Sound has stated that they aim to make their next debut for 2021’s dates of September 18th and 19th. If you happened to pick up Early Bird tickets to the event, those will be honored for next year, but they’re also extending refunds for all passes if you’re unable to attend the new proposed dates.
This postponement isn’t much of a surprise at this point and honestly, we’re considerably more worried about the ramifications it will have for all other smaller festivals that don’t have major financial backing. What we’d really like to dig into is the question all have repeatedly been asking since the beginning of March, is Coachella still happening?
Well, obviously no one would know unless they were an executive at Goldenvoice, however, I think we can do a pretty good job of determining whether or not a 100,000 person per day festival is slated to happen or not in the year 2020. Our gut feeling is yelling NO, but our hearts are screaming PLEASE. Both Governor Newsom and Mayor Garcetti have been leading the charge in our country to get us healthy, tested, traced, and to hopefully put all of this behind us. The main concern is that October is still much too early to have an event of Coachella or Primavera Sound’s caliber in Los Angeles.
While a majority of other, better performing and running countries seem to be putting the issue behind them, we’re still very much in the midst of this thing. Ultimately, decisions could change in an instant as to whether major events are allowed, but given the data and analytics that have been provided, our logical sides are telling us that maybe, just maybe, we’ll see a Coachella 2021 poised for its normal dates.
At this point, it’s still really too early to tell. Will 2021’s festival season be impacted with postponements or will things go as planned with Coachella kicking things off in April? Time will tell, but for now, stay tuned and informed!
