Day 2 of Bumbershoot Festival Brings More Musical Magic to Seattle - Highlights

With day two of Bumbershoot coming to a close, this also means that the weekend festivities have also come to an end. It was a welcome re-introduction of a long, cherished festival by all involved, fans, vendors, security, organizers, and most of all the bands, who, when given the opportunity, praised the festival for its long-standing tradition of bringing music to the masses.

One of the major surprises for me was the absolute ferocity of Pussy Riot, she commanded a huge stage and had complete control over the largest audience that I had seen all weekend. She did this all herself with two dancers, dressed in bondage by her side. This absolute monster of a performance was really truly impressive. I won’t go as far as to say that I am a fan, as much of an admirer.

Both the Descendants and Jawbreaker impressed fans after both had a long hiatus away from the stage. You can tell that the faithful punk fans were out in droves in their black denim jackets and jeans to see two of their favorite bands. For the weekend Phantogram packed in the smallest of the three main stages, with a crowd full of energy and packed in like sardines. There was even an incident where the band had to stop playing so someone could receive medical attention. After that moment was handled, the band restarted their set and played on with explosive energy.

Band of Horses, who are no stranger to Bumbershoot Festival, delighted fans with all of their best catchy tunes, including my personal favorite, The Funeral. Now, I don’t know where exactly to place The Revivalists, are the pop, country, indie, folk or a perfect blend of all, but they seemed to be having tons of fun on stage, and engaging their fans a ton, and playing with their hearts on their sleeves.

Mentioned previously, this was my first time attending this festival, and it will not be my last. Now that I live on the West Coast, there are a lot of festivals that I plan on attending, reviewing, and photographing. I would place this festival in the top, five of all festivals that I’ve ever attended, and I’ve done a ton. The festival itself was so well organized and executed, that I praised the staff whenever I got the chance. The mood of the whole weekend was fun and enjoyable, and without conflict. All of the food, vendors and security were simply delightful. Speaking of food, all of the food that I tried was delicious.

If you happen to be in Seattle and this festival is happening, I highly suggest that you scoop up a weekend pass and see for yourself what all the hype is about, you’ll be happy you attended, I know I was.  Until next year!!
