Bumbershoot Festival Kicks Off with a Bang: Day 1 Highlights
Day one of Bumbershoot is in the books, and it was certainly one to remember. The anticipation leading up to the 50th Anniversary of this staple Seattle music festival was evident as the crowd poured in once the gates opened. The day started with some lesser known acts, but that didn't stop fans from lining up early to see their favorite artists perform at one of the five stages spread about the Seattle Center, in the shadow of the infamous Space Needle.
The Saturday line-up included, but not limited to, the following acts on the three main stages; Morgan and the Organ Donors (pictured), The Dip (pictured), Slift, Warpaint (pictured), Jacob Banks (pictured), Sweet Water, Thunderpussy (pictured), Ride (pictured), Puddles Pity Party (pictured), Durand Jones (pictured), Matt and Kim (pictured), AFI (pictured), Brittany Howard (pictured), Sunny Day Real Estate (pictured), Sleater Kinney, and Zhu.
Some highlights from Saturday were boobs, dildos, and huge balls, and that was just during Matt and Kim, to be expected. All of the bands brought their best to the fest, and gave the fans exactly what they came to see, good solid performances, full of energy, commitment, and tons of amazing crowd interactions. The Dip crooned their way through their set with lusciously crafted tunes that one could liken to the old days with a modern indie twist. Warpaint brought their grunge infused brooding indie rock. Jacob Banks preached his way through his set with his powerful and bold vocals. Thunderpussy brought an unmatched presence with their strong and enticing female energy.
Durand Jones slayed his set with his smooth like butter vocals and vintage throwback indie rock. Matt and Kim had some phenomenal energy, and the crowd was totally eating it up. Davey Havock and crew with AFI were stunning with their heavy and melodic punk rock set. Brittany Howard played guitar better than everyone else, as usual, and knows how to command a stage. To close out the evening Sunny Day Real Estate sounded just like they did thirty years ago, incredible, inspiring, and powerful.
On the way out the door for day two as we speak, look out for more on the way!
