Phoebe Bridgers Makes History At Los Angeles' Greek Theatre

October 21st, 2021 is a day that will undoubtedly go down in live music history. Why’s that you ask? Well, Phoebe Bridgers and her band absolutely took control of Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and put on a show that concert goers will assuredly remember for the rest of their lives. From the opening moments to the final notes, she’s solidifying herself as an artist that we’ll all remember forever.

Kicking the night off was her opener, Charlie Hickey, who brought his stylistically laidback acoustic set into the mix. It set a nice even tone for the night as he played songs off of his newest EP, Count The Stairs. Midway through his set is when things got fun, because he signaled to the crowd and announced he was bringing out his “boss” for a duet. That “boss” was Phoebe herself and they shared a serious moment as they sung together in complete harmony. Having not been familiar with Charlie’s music prior to seeing him, he truly impressed us with his cadence, and we’ll totally be digging into more of his music as it gets shared.

Onto the main event though, it’s almost difficult to put into words the palpable energy coursing the Greek Theatre that night. With so many superfans in attendance, you can only imagine the constant screams, yells, and anticipation as Phoebe Bridgers finally hit the stage. Once she did though, she opened up the night with some of the hits off of her 2020 critically acclaimed record, Punisher. Soaring through them and pleasing the crowd with “Garden Song”, “Kyoto”, and so many more, she proved super quick it’s pretty impossible for her to make a bad sound.

Interjecting some playful banter in between tracks, a whole lot of emotion jam packed into each song, and even the band members getting their own moments to shine, it was an unforgettable night. The main set finished off as always with a whopping rendition of her Punisher closer, “I Know The End”. Filled with flames on the screen, her patented screams, and all the love in the world fused into song, we can think of no better way to close a show.

Let us not speak too soon though, because the encore of the show is what was potentially the most shocking. If you’ve spent anytime on the internet in the past 6 months, you’d have an idea of just how popular Bo Burnham’s Netflix special Inside was. Treating the crowd to a faithful cover of his song, “Funny Feeling”, was the most cathartic and mind blowing experience to hear in a live setting. Of course the crowd was singing along during her main set, but everyone joined in perfect unison somehow remembering the words to that song. All we can really describe it as was pure bliss. If you happened to be at her second night playing at the Greek Theatre, there’s actually a great reaction video of Bo Burnham watching Phoebe play the song. Here’s the link.

Wrapping it up though, there really isn’t a negative thing we could possibly point out here. It was a wonderful night and we’ll surely be taking the chance to see Phoebe Bridgers live whenever we can!
