Magic City Hippies Tear Through "Water Your Garden" at LA's The Belasco
Fresh off the release of their second full length record Water Your Garden, Magic City Hippies stormed into Los Angeles’ The Belasco on a mission, to shred the night away with a show that completely blew our minds. Whether you’ve listened to their music or not, let this concert recap be the reason to either dive headfirst into their discography or catch them at a show immediately if they happen to be coming to a city near you.
While the show spanned around an hour and a half, it felt like it breezed right by with what felt like one long guitar and drum solo back to back to back. With their full lineup finally together and the band firing all on cylinders, the energy coursing the crowd was palpable. Opening up the show with their biggest hit as of late, “Diamonds”, MCH set the tone for the night with what can only be described as a legendary performance. To be honest, we were lucky enough to discover this band after the release of their Hippie Castle EP, but this was our first time seeing them in a live setting. To say they delivered would be an honest understatement, because even the casual fans in the crowd appeared to be having the night of their lives.
Spanning their discography with other hits off their record Modern Animal, we seriously enjoyed the variety in which they played from. Although they’re still a relatively newish band in terms of notoriety, we have a sneaking suspicion that Water Your Garden is going to propel them into the mainstage. With such a resurgence nowadays with psychedelic rock, the way that they’re infusing a fairly even blend of synthesizers, pure energy, and an obvious passion for what they do is really the key to success for a fruitful future.
Although it appears that they’re at the tail end of this current tour, there’s no doubt in our minds that they’ll be back at it again hopefully sometime later in 2022.
