Lola Kirke Lights Up The Night at LA's The Fonda Theatre

It’s a beautiful Monday night and the stars are out…but here in Hollywood the only stars we can see are the ones lining the ground on the walk over to the historic Fonda Theater where singer-songwriter Lola Kirke has taken the stage. The first thing we notice about Lola as she comes on is her bright energy and contagious smile. Decked out in bright pink from her leggings all the way to the cowboy boots, Lola quickly showed us her variety and tendency for flawlessly blending styles.

However, her outfit isn’t the only way she does this. Her music is a tasteful and unique combination of 80’s pop with a twang of country flavor. The use of synthy melody lines and straight, almost robotic sounding drums are a base for her country vocal melodies and tone.  Lola played a bunch of her new songs including our favorite of the night “Better Than Any Drug”. During the performance of this song, we felt Lola come alive in a way that she danced and moved on the stage, even laying on the floor kicking her legs into the air.

Her playful banter with the crowd and uplifting songs had us and the entire audience dancing along throughout the entirety of the performance.  At the moment, she’s aiming to put out her new album Lady For Sale on April 29th, 2022 and we have to assume that it's going to be as great as all the singles that she performed from it at her show.  We can't wait to hear the new album and see what else the future holds for Lola.

With all that being said though, it is our sincere urge going forward that if she comes to a city near you, it’s a no-brainer to go and see the greatness that is her live show. In the meantime, we’ve got a fairly extensive photo gallery of her set featured below, as well as all the links to keep up with her on social media, and of course to listen too. Don’t miss out!
