L'Imperatrice Bring Endless Grooves to LA's Fonda Theatre

If you weren’t sweating from head to toe, dancing like a complete lunatic, and singing at the top of your lungs, you must not have been at L’Imperatrice’s show at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Thankfully, we were there to recount an extremely memorable night that solidified the band as one of our new favorites. We’ve even got a full photo gallery below in case you missed out.

Let us kick off this review with a sincere recommendation to say that if L’Imperatrice ever comes to a city near you, it’s an absolute must that you grab a ticket and go, no questions asked. Having witnessed their greatness before at last year’s Summer Well Festival in Bucharest, Romania, we were obviously thrilled that the band was making their way to Los Angeles in between Coachella weekends. Still riding the highs from their 2021 record Tako Tsubo, they treated the crowd to 90 minutes of pure adrenaline, endless funky grooves, and a live show that legitimately rivals some of today’s mainstream artists.

Now we don’t want to spoil too much here for fear of giving away the highlights of the set, however we do want to specifically point out the sheer energy from every member of the band. Typically you’d expect only the frontwoman, such as Flore Benguigui in this case, to keep the momentum going and get everyone involved. In this band’s case, every musician makes it a point in the set to make themselves known and get the crowd going all the while playing their instrument at the same time. Through choreographed dance moments, playful banter in between songs, and matching outfits alike, it only adds to the infinite allure of L’Imperatrice.

While we’re sure that their set at Coachella was full of memorable moments just like last night’s show, there’s no possible way you’d be able to recreate the energy of having their fans in one building. We attend tons of shows, but have never seen so many people dancing and excited all at once. Through transitions like from “Anomalie bleue” right into “Matahari”, the crowd exploded with glee and that was really only the tip of the iceberg. We won’t spoil the encore, but lets just say it was the defining moment in forever seeing this band as long as they keep touring.

For now, please do yourselves a huge favor and check out all of the important links below, as well as our full photo gallery detailing a wonderful night. Enjoy!
