Less Than Jake Prove Ska is Alive at 02 Academy Glasgow
Having traveled all the way from Los Angeles to Scotland to see Less Than Jake perform was well worth the time and energy. This past week at 02 Academy Glasgow, LTJ and a star studded cast of openers (Mille Manders and the Shutup, The Toasters, and Skinny Lister), put on a memorable night of music that we’ll hold with us forever. If you weren’t there for whatever reason, please don’t miss out on our full review and photo gallery detailing the night below.
Almost like a mini Ska Punk festival for all the diehards out there, Less Than Jake celebrated their 30th year as a band with a night of tunes that everyone in the crowd knew by heart. Still on their tour for 2020’s Silver Linings, they delicately put a setlist together that blended the hits we all know the most from Anthem and a nice even mix of the newer stuff. Honestly though, you could’ve come into the show not knowing a single song and left a super fan. After all these years, the energy consistently has stayed high and the crowd banter always keeps the surprises coming one after the other.
We’ve been so fortunate over the years living in Southern California to get to see the band quite often, but after having conversations with other concert goers before the show, you could truly sense the appreciation in their demeanors. To think that in 2022 the Ska Punk scene is very much alive in the United Kingdom; well that’s just a wild sentence to put together. With that being said though, the crowd matched the band’s energy and there was no shortage whatsoever of enthused attendees. Ranging in ages from 10 to 65, the love for music lives in and this show certainly proved it.
Giving the crowd well over an hour of top tier energy and non stop playing, this was one for the books. It’s always an interesting time witnessing international shows, but even more different when they’re from your home country. In the future, we can’t wait to experience it again. Long live Less Than Jake and long live Ska music!
