Automatic Preview Their 2nd LP "Excess" at The Wiltern
Making their way to Los Angeles for a hometown show at The Wiltern, we got the special opportunity to witness a band on the rise, Automatic. With a whole bunch of new music just released, and plenty more on the way, it was a memorable night seeing these songs come to life. Luckily, we’ve got a full review and photo gallery below for anyone who happened to miss it.
Made up of Izzy Glaudini (synths, lead vocals), Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) and Halle Saxon (bass, vocals), Automatic are undoubtedly having their biggest year yet. Currently on tour with Parquet Courts, with plans to open up for Osees and Tame Impala later in 2022, they’re prepping for their second full length album titled Excess. For everyone who attended last night’s show at The Wiltern, they got a taste of what’s already been released through singles “Venus Hour” and “New Beginning”, but we’re still quite excited to see how the rest of the record shapes up.
As it prepares for its release this coming June, it’s safe to say that the band is making waves all around the indie scene, and their live show has beat all expectations. With a crowd that was already riled up for the headliner Parquet Courts, Automatic slid into the night as a power trio and left the audience hollering for more by the end. Powering through tracks off of 2019’s Signal and bringing tons of energy to the stage, it didn’t take long for everyone in our section to start vibing with it.
Most of what we enjoyed about the set was the absolute diversity in sounds that they presented. It effortlessly flowed from classic psychedelia through cloudy synthesizers all the way to a modern take on what punk music has become. Though each member showed off their musical capabilities, the tightness in which they played as a band was astounding. There’s a secret language that band members speak to each other when on stage and it seemed that they were all fluent, so to speak. All in all though, they truly prepped a sea of nearly 2,000 people that ended up being a night to remember. We can’t wait to see how far they go by the end of this year and beyond!
