Wrongbird teases new record with a vibrant new single, "Mr. April"
One of the most lively and downright vibrant songs we’ve heard this year, Wrongbird has returned with a total winner titled “Mr. April”. We are loving it! Read on as we share our thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the band.
Austin-based indie rock band Wrongbird has soared to new heights with their latest single "Mr. April". Since their inception in 2017, Wrongbird has been known for their unique sound, blending elements from 60’s folk and blues sensibilities, humorous yet emotional storytelling, and even old-school 1920’s elements included too. "Mr. April" captures the essence of the band's sound and pushes it to new heights. It’s both a band and a song we’re keeping a close eye on, so please do the same for yourself and give this one a spin.
Keyboardist and vocalist Eric Baker and guitarist Michael Blake lead the way in this four-piece band, rounded out by bassist Dylan Hill and drummer Tim Smith. Together they create a sound that is both quirky and captivating. The band's brand of "wrong-rock" is on full display in this single, with a blend of acoustic energy, succinct machine, and spirited vocals. The track starts with a sense of vulnerability in the vocal patterns, as Baker's warm harmonies and a jangly guitar create an ideal base for the indie pop anthem. However as the track progresses, it evolves into a joyful celebration of life, complete with a simple, infectious hook that will get stuck in your head for days.
"Mr. April" is a testament to the band's ability to write heartfelt and relatable lyrics that resonate with their audience. The song reminds us that even when life seems tough, there is always hope. We’ll eventually be able to find joy even when we're raining on our own parade. The track's openness is offset by a sense of resilience, making it a great anthem for anyone going through a tough time.
Overall, Wrongbird's latest single "Mr. April" is a masterpiece of indie pop, showcasing the band's unique blend of musical styles, heartfelt lyrics, and laid back feel. This single is a wonderful example of why Wrongbird has become a fan favorite in the Austin music scene, and we can't wait to see what they have in store for us with their upcoming second full-length record.
