Indie rockers, Wildlife Moon, release their stunning debut single, "Darkness"

Review by Austin Sher

Released on July 17th, 2020, Wildlife Moon have officially made their debut single release for “Darkness”. Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the track, as well as provide a bit of background on the artist.

If you’re a fan of classic indie rock that not only features diverse and original instrumentation, but a meaningful story as well, then “Darkness” is definitely the new song you need to be listening to. Before we get into our thoughts though, we’d love to provide a bio on the backstory of Wildlife Moon.

Behind the scenes of Wildlife Moon is Gerald Edward, who was born and raised in New Jersey. He kicked off his music career by picking up the guitar and learning riffs from the greats like Black Sabbath, Nirvana, and all types of different Warped Tour era punk bands. When he’s not rocking out, he also enjoys himself some James Taylor and Paul Simon, as do we. After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, he returned to New York City and connected within the indie folk scene based in Brooklyn.

Late 2019 came and he officially began recording material for Wildlife Moon, along with friends Mike Reilly (on drums), Sydney Price (backing vocals), and Charlie Sztyk (backing vocals). Since then, we can imagine it’s only been all business for Gerald as writing, recording, and producing is quite difficult, but the end result here is quite impressive.

Moving onto the music, what a fantastically unique debut to put out into the world! The opening mix of synthesizer, powerful drumming, and Gerald’s country-esque voice really made for an exciting release. While the instrumentation was surely diverse and varied, the vocals were really the standout on “Darkness”. The way that the story was being told all the while there’s these booming drums and guitar carrying the load in the background, truly beautiful.

Wildlife Moon did let us know that this is the first of five singles being released in 2020! So if you liked this, which you absolutely will, it’s time to get excited for the four future releases. We’re not sure on the timeframe, so definitely keep an eye out on Wildlife Moon’s social media channels for the most up to date news.
