Underdog crank it up on debut album, "Ether Dome"

Officially released in 2020, but still just as rocking today, Underdog have put out their heavy debut record, Ether Dome. Read along with us as we break down our complete thoughts on the record, as well as a background on the band.

Formed in 2014 by Scott Ferguson (Guitar, Bass & Vocals) and Bryn Carlson (Lead Guitar, Drums, Bass & Vocals), Underdog are a Boston-based band that are equally having fun and putting out highly listenable classic rock and roll. Joined onstage by Aram Heller (Bass) and Harry MacKenzie (Drums), we’re counting down the days until we see some tour announcements surrounding Ether Dome.

Released back in September of 2020 on Sonic Vibration Records, the members of Underdog are no strangers to the world of music. While this might be their debut as this new band, they’ve all been parts of different projects over the years dating back to the 80’s. Honestly, it looks like we need to do some digging into those past projects such as The Hackmasters, Secret Word, World of Distortion, and more!

As for Ether Dome, well right off the bat we’ve just got to formally tell you that it is a thoroughly fantastic listen. At 12 total tracks, spanning just about 36 minutes, it certainly doesn’t overstay its welcome. As rock and roll lovers ourselves, it so perfectly scratched that itch of untethered, loose, and high powered playing that we require in our music. We feel that it would translate perfectly to a live setting in a packed club as all the members collectively melt our faces off.

Honestly it would be a near impossible task to even attempt to pick a favorite from the bunch. Our recommendation here would be to give it a full and thorough listen from start to finish. Basically the aim should be to start at “Suzie My Dear” and let the music and atmosphere flow on through you. It’s virtually guaranteed to put you in a good mood and crave that true live music feeling we know you’re missing so much.

Our immediate thoughts afterwards were the hopes of how quickly we can get a follow up. While we’re sure the members have been busy, even another single release at some point in 2021 would be much appreciated. No rush to the band though, we know these things take quite a bit of time.

So with all being said, go ahead and check out Ether Dome at your earliest convenience. It’s fun, jam packed with sweet riffs, and just a wonderful listening experience. Listen and follow along with Underdog by clicking the links below.
