Uncle Muscle span the spectrum of style on stellar LP, "Say Uncle"
Seeing its official release on May 7th, 2022, Uncle Muscle have just released one of the most fun and upbeat records we’ve heard this year titled Say Uncle. Read on for our glowing review, as well as a much needed background on the band.
Made up of Colin Taylor, Kellen Baker and Sam Clay, Uncle Muscle are a Power Pop and Rock group currently based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. With musical influences spanning the spectrum and ranging from groups like The Beatles all the way to Spoon, they’ve still managed to carve out a specific niche that we’ve quickly become enamored with. Say Uncle marks their first major release since 2017’s self-titled debut EP and they’ve certainly surpassed all of our high expectations.
While each individual member in the band can also be found in other touring groups such as Namen Namen, Hillbilly Casino, and Craig Brown Band, they’ve shifted their focus to finish up Say Uncle and the wait was ultimately worth it. Coming in at 12 total tracks, the band immediately immerse the listener in a vibrant sound that introduces a wide variety of genres throughout the album. While its roots can be found in Pop and Rock, so many subgenres show themselves like a bit of Surf Rock and modern day Pop within the melodies. Whatever label you’d like to slap on it, all we really know deep down is that it rocks hard from start to finish.
Specifically, we found ourselves gravitating to more of the faster paced tracks like “I Care Too Much” and “Pure Evil”. They’re simplistically toeing the line of us wanting to headbang and dance all at the same time. Our initial impression after finishing Say Uncle up was just how perfectly these songs would translate in a live setting. It’ll all make sense once you hit the play button, but getting to hear the opener “Primal” being blasted in our faces would be a dream. The band is actually headed out on tour to celebrate the release of the record and will be hitting cities like Detroit, Chicago, NYC, and plenty more. We highly recommend you keep up to date on their social media, because this is a show you wouldn’t want to miss.
With all that being said, this review is coming out on release day, and there’d be no better way to enjoy it than to crank it up loud and get listening. We’ve included the most important links below to do so, in addition to their social media links to stay tuned. Enjoy!
